Having been around for more than a quarter of a century, IAM is one of Marseille’s best known rap groups. It was back in 1994, with their first single “Je Danse le Mia”, that the group emerged as one of the pioneers of French hip hop. Dozens of other hits followed, such as “Petit Frère”, “L’Empire du Côté Obscur”, “Independenza”, and “Revoir un Printemps”. IAM deliver a militant, poetic and thought-provoking form of rap. Their musical influences are many, from American rap to soul, funk and world music.In 2013, the legendary Marseilles group made an incredible comeback and experienced a virtual rebirth in the spring with the release of their album “Arts Martiens”. The album proudly waves the flag for a powerful, grown-up rap which is more relevant than ever. Just a few months following this release, IAM unveiled a new album “... IAM”. Akhenaton describes it as more personal, more raw, hence more gutsy. Akhenaton, Shurik'n, Kheops, Imhotep and Kephren will be on Caribana’s Grande Scène to showcase their latest work which may well be their last. A close encounter of the third kind not to be missed.
